What to know before you open an account

Every provider has trade-offs. These are the ones we found on its own pages and in regulator records.

  • Crossing $25,000 changes the fee from zero to 0.35% on the whole balance, about $87.50 a year at $25,000.
  • Portfolios are made only of Fidelity Flex Funds, which are not generally available outside the program, so leaving means selling them.
  • The account cannot be used for self-directed trading, and coaching access ends if your balance falls under $25,000.
  • Fidelity can end your participation if the account is not funded within 90 days of opening.

Regulator record

  • Apr 27, 2026, Massachusetts Securities Division. Consent order against Fidelity Brokerage Services, where Fidelity Go accounts are held: it failed to enforce certain cybersecurity controls, and an unauthorized third party obtained personal information of about 77,000 customers and individuals in a breach in August 2024. Censure and a $1.25 million administrative fine. Read the source

What is Fidelity Go?

Sources read on the date shown
Fidelity Go is Fidelity's automated investing service. You answer a few questions, Fidelity builds a portfolio from its own Flex Funds, keeps it balanced and reinvests for you. It fits people who are just starting out, because there is no advisory fee while your balance is under $25,000 and no minimum to open an account. The price changes at $25,000. Below it you pay nothing for the service. At $25,000 or more the advisory fee is 0.35% a year on the entire balance, about $87.50 on $25,000, and that same fee brings tax-loss harvesting (selling an investment at a loss to lower your tax bill) and unlimited one-on-one coaching calls with a Fidelity team. The Flex Funds in the portfolio do not charge management fees or, with limited exceptions, fund expenses, so there is no second layer of fees. Accounts come as taxable (individual or joint), Traditional, Roth, Rollover and SEP IRAs, and HSAs. Figures were read on Fidelity's own pages and program brochure on 14 October 2026. The trade-offs: the Flex Funds are available only inside the program, so leaving means selling them. You cannot trade on your own in a Go account, and the coaching and tax-loss harvesting stop if your balance slips back under $25,000. Fidelity may also end your participation if the account is not funded within 90 days.
