Capital One Spark Cash Plus Review in 2026: Business Card Fees and Who It Fits
Worth it for a business that spends $150,000 a year and pays in full. The $150 fee is refunded at that level, and 2% pays on every purchase.
The Capital One Spark Cash Plus is worth it for a business that spends at least $150,000 a year on the card and pays the balance in full. It pays 2% on every purchase with no cap, and its $150 annual fee comes back as a statement credit once net purchases reach $150,000. Capital One's own card page, read October 10, 2026, also lists a $2,000 welcome bonus after $30,000 in three months.
FinanceRadar data: of the seven business cards in our catalog, as of July 2026, three charge no annual fee. The Spark Cash Plus's fee is the second-lowest of the four that charge one, behind only the Chase Ink Business Preferred. The full consumer and business set sits on our credit card statistics page.
Below the threshold, and setting the welcome bonuses aside, the card is a weaker deal than Capital One's own Spark 2% Cash. The fee is not refunded, and the cheaper card charges $95 after its first year. Above that spend, the refund flips the comparison, and the Spark Cash Plus costs nothing net.

Figures come from Capital One's Spark Cash Plus page, read October 10, 2026. Capital One's page calls the card a charge card in its own FAQ, and the payment terms allow a balance to carry. Read the disclosure before you assume either version applies to you.
The fee comes back only above the spend threshold
The fee is a statement credit, not a waiver, and it depends on how much you spend. Capital One says the fee comes back each year when net purchases reach the threshold by the membership anniversary. The credit posts within two billing cycles after that date. Returns reduce net purchases, so a business that refunds a large invoice can fall under the line even when its gross spend clears it.
Take a business that spends $10,000 a month, or $120,000 a year. It earns 2% on $120,000, which is $2,400, and the welcome bonus adds its full amount in year one. The fee stays on the account, so year one nets $4,250 and year two nets $2,250. At $10,000 a month, the business clears the welcome spend in its first three months with nothing to spare.
A business at $12,500 a month, which equals the threshold, changes the math. The 2% reward is $3,000 and the fee comes back, so the card's annual cost is zero. That is the point of the threshold: the fee is a commitment device for heavy spenders, not a charge on everyone who holds the card.
Rewards: 2% everywhere, 5% only through the travel portal
The flat 2% is the card's real earning power, and it has no ceiling or category rules. Capital One says the rate applies to every purchase with no limits or category restrictions. Rewards do not expire while the account stays open and in good standing, which matters for a business that saves cash back for a slow quarter.
The 5% tier is narrower. It covers hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel, and nothing else. A business that books through another portal earns the flat 2% on those purchases. If your team's travel mostly runs through the portal, the 5% lifts the effective return on that spend well above the base rate.
The welcome bonus needs $30,000 in three months
The welcome bonus is real, but it needs a fast start. It pays after the stated purchase total within three months of opening. The headline "$4,000 or more" on the page includes a second bonus that only appears after $500,000 in year-one spend. Plan around the first bonus, and treat the second bonus as upside.
Capital One says the bonuses are available only by clicking Apply Now on its page, and may not apply to existing or former Capital One Business cardholders. Start the application from the card page itself.
Employee cards and foreign purchases
Employee cards are free, and Capital One lets you set spend limits on each one. A business with a sales team or several managers can issue cards without a per-card fee. The page also lists no foreign transaction fee on purchases made outside the United States, which matters for a team that travels.
Payment terms: built to be paid in full
Capital One's page says the card is designed to be paid in full, but it allows a partial balance to carry with interest. That combination makes the card suit a business that pays on time every month. A carried balance costs interest at a rate the card page does not print. The rate sits in the rates and fees disclosure, which you should read before applying.
A missed minimum payment triggers a late fee, which Capital One states as 2.99%. Check the disclosure for how that fee is calculated, because a late payment can wipe out a month's worth of reward on a card like this.
Spark Cash Plus against Spark 2% Cash
Capital One's Spark 2% Cash is the closest sibling, and on annual fees it wins below the threshold. It pays the same unlimited 2%, offers a $1,000 bonus after $10,000 in three months, and charges $0 for the first year and $95 after that. Its travel tier lists hotels and rental cars, with no vacation rentals.
The welcome offer favors the Cash Plus in year one: $2,000 against $1,000. The Spark 2% Cash, though, asks for a third of the spend to earn its bonus. Its page prints a 24.74% variable purchase APR. The Cash Plus page does not print one, so do not assume the two cards carry the same rate.
Set aside the bonuses and compare only the annual fee. The Spark 2% Cash charges nothing in year one, so the gap opens in year two. From then, below the threshold, the Cash Plus costs $55 more per year, because its $150 fee is larger than the $95 fee. At the threshold and above, the refund flips the result, and the Cash Plus costs $95 less per year than the Spark 2% Cash.
Who should pick it, and who should skip it
Pick the Spark Cash Plus if your business spends at least $150,000 a year on one card and pays it off each month. It suits a company with a sales team, a travel budget booked through Capital One Business Travel, and no need for a revolving balance. The welcome bonus is a bonus for a fast-starting business, so it should not drive the decision on its own.
Skip it if your annual card spend is under the threshold. The Spark 2% Cash charges less in annual fees at that level, and it has the same flat 2% reward. Skip it too if your spending clusters in a few bonus categories, where a category card can return more. Our Chase Ink Business Cash and Ink Business Unlimited comparison covers that route. Finally, skip it if you need credit you can carry without a payoff plan, since the card is built for full payment.
"No preset spending limit" does not mean unlimited spending. Capital One says the amount you can spend moves with your spending, payment history and credit profile, so a business should not budget around it.
How we checked
We read Capital One's Spark Cash Plus page and its Spark 2% Cash page on October 10, 2026. The scenarios are our arithmetic on those terms, and they assume every purchase earns 2% with no year-one $500,000 bonus. The "Financeradar data" figures come from our own card catalog, dated July 2026, and not from the issuer. No card in this piece was applied for. Terms change, so confirm the current numbers on Capital One's page before you apply. See how Financeradar makes money for our disclosure.

FAQ
Is the Capital One Spark Cash Plus worth the annual fee?
It is worth it for a business that spends at least the threshold on the card a year, because Capital One refunds the fee at that level. Below that spend, Capital One's own Spark 2% Cash charges less in annual fees, since its fee is $95 after the first year.
Does the Spark Cash Plus annual fee get refunded?
Yes, but only when net purchases reach the threshold by the membership anniversary. Capital One says the statement credit posts within two billing cycles after that date. A business below the threshold pays the fee in full.
What does the Spark Cash Plus welcome bonus require?
A $2,000 cash bonus after $30,000 in purchases within the first three months, according to Capital One's card page read October 10, 2026. A second bonus applies for every $500,000 spent in the first year.
Does the Spark Cash Plus charge foreign transaction fees?
No. Capital One's page lists no foreign transaction fee on purchases made outside the United States. That makes it a fit for a business whose team buys abroad, though the rate on the balance you carry is a separate question.
Can you carry a balance on the Spark Cash Plus?
Capital One says the card is designed to be paid in full, but it allows part of a balance to carry with interest. The page does not print the purchase APR, so check the rates and fees disclosure before you rely on that option.
