Cleo vs Brigit in 2026: Cash Advances, Fees and the AI Assistant
Brigit is the better same-day cash advance as of September 24, 2026. The higher plan includes express delivery. Cleo's monthly plan costs less when a free 3 to 4 day transfer is fast enough.
Brigit is the better cash advance when the money has to arrive the same day. As of September 24, 2026, most Instant Cash express transfers arrive within 20 minutes, and the homepage prices the subscription up to $15.99 a month, with express included on the higher plan. Cleo Plus is $5.99 a month or $44.99 a year, and same-day delivery adds $4.49 to $14.99. Plus is cheaper only when the free 3 to 4 day transfer is fast enough.
A cash advance here is pay you expect, taken early and repaid from a later deposit, not a savings account and not an installment loan. Financeradar data: the 35 high-yield savings accounts we verify average 3.54% APY as of September 23, 2026, on the 34 accounts with a published rate (high-yield savings statistics). At that average, $1,270.90 earns Cleo's annual Plus price in a year before tax, and only if the rate holds. A year at the low end of Brigit's homepage range is $107.88, which takes $3,046.61 at the same average. Tax on the interest means neither balance covers the subscription after tax.
A budget or a net-worth total is a different job from this advance. Monarch, Copilot, Empower, and Kubera are compared in Empower vs Monarch vs Copilot vs Kubera. Other advance apps are in best cash advance apps.
Side by side
Rows come from Cleo's pricing page, the Plus, Pro, annual, and cash-advance help articles, and the terms updated August 11, 2026, plus Brigit's Instant Cash page, homepage footnotes, and terms revised March 31, 2026. All of those pages were checked September 24, 2026. A marketed maximum is not the amount a new account receives.

Brigit wins when the cash has to move today
The express cap is why Brigit wins a same-day advance. Non-Premium users pay the range in the table, shown in the app before you confirm, and a larger advance can sit at the top of that range. Premium drops that fee to zero, so one fast transfer costs the subscription and nothing extra for speed. Cleo's same-day range can cost more than that entire Brigit express schedule before Cleo's own subscription is added.
The free path is the one to use when the bill can wait. Instant Cash says delivery takes 2 to 3 business days and is always free. The March 31, 2026 terms say you can receive an advance within three business days, and that express, with a debit card linked, typically arrives in the window the table lists. The headline's "in minutes" and the footnote's express timing are the same option.
Repayment is voluntary on the contract, and the next advance is not. Brigit says it has no legal claim if you do not repay, will not send the balance to a collector, and will not report the unpaid advance to a credit bureau. Later advances stop until the open one is repaid in full. You can extend the date in the app with no fee, and the first date is typically your next payday. The hard part is the debit: Brigit may pull when it sees money come in, even if that deposit does not cover the full amount owed, so a partial paycheck can still leave other bills short.
Eligibility is a paycheck pattern, not a credit score. Instant Cash requires a checking account at least 60 days old, a balance above $0, a cash cushion on paycheck days (the dollar floor is shown in the app), and at least three recurring deposits from the same employer or source. ATM deposits, paper checks, cash transfers, and irregular pay schedules do not count. A new account can miss the 60-day line, and a cash-paid job can miss the deposit line, before any amount appears.
The terms add a second test: the bank must let Brigit's data partner see 90 days of transactions. Qualifying scores run from 40 to 100, and the app shows the minimum you need.
The company average in the table is what members actually received, not the marketed ceiling. Maine stops at the lower state figure, and the product is not offered in every state. Autopilot can send an advance when the model expects an overdraft, inside that same published band, and you can turn it off. The homepage says those predictions are advisory and do not guarantee an overdraft will or will not happen.
Cleo wins when you can wait, and the chat is the product
Plus is the low bill if the free transfer is fast enough for the bill you are covering. The annual help article, dated January 21, 2026, is the source of the monthly and yearly Plus prices in the table. Twelve monthly Plus charges are $71.88, which is $26.89 more than paying for the year, so pay annually if you will stay the year. Pro stays on the monthly price in the table, and Builder has no annual option.
The August 11 terms still list phone bundles at $48.99, $53.99, and $54.99 a month before local taxes, though the pricing page does not offer those bundles. Brigit's terms describe monthly subscriptions only, so a year of waiting on Cleo has a published discount Brigit does not match.
The cash-advance article, updated August 10, 2026, says you pick a repayment date 3 to 14 days out. Standard delivery is free and arrives in 3 to 4 days. Same-day delivery adds the express fee in the table, due when you repay.
The August 11 terms still describe the unpaid speed as generally within three business days, and the paid speed as within 24 hours. Treat "same-day" as the help article and "within 24 hours" as the contract. A morning request is not guaranteed to land before a bill cuts off that afternoon.
The amount is an eligibility result, not the number on the pricing card. Plus and Pro use the lower band in the table, with a daily disbursement cap of $170 unless you are a direct-deposit customer. Builder uses the higher band, and the pricing footnote requires the direct-deposit test in the table before the top of that band applies. If that test is out of reach, Builder is a higher subscription for an advance you may not receive.
The eligibility article, updated April 29, 2026, says the check looks at your paycheck, spending, and budget, and that paying for a subscription does not by itself produce an advance. Connect the account where you are paid: a bank Cleo cannot read, a thin balance, or late subscription payments are the reasons that article gives for a no.
Someone pays above Plus for the assistant: the Pro article lists voice chat and conversation memory on top of cash advances, a debt plan, credit-score coaching, and savings goals, at the Pro price in the table. Plus, on its own help article, is the advance, an Equifax score with a simulator, and Debt Reset. Debt Reset is a payoff picture inside the app, not a payment Cleo makes to your creditors.
Free Cleo still exists: the terms say the personal-finance tools have no fee, and you can ask for an advance in the chat or by email without a plan. The path the help article describes as the usual one is still a subscription.
The refund window closes when you use the advance. Terms give 27 days from signup to cancel for a refund of the subscription fee, paid back within four working days. Taking a cash advance, opening the card, or deleting the account ends that window, so the person who downloaded Cleo for the advance has already stepped out of it. After that, subscription fees are non-refundable, and the express fee is non-refundable even sooner. Cancel by typing "cancel" in the app, or by email, before the advance and before the next charge.
Both companies call the advance non-recourse, so a miss pauses the product rather than creating a balance you can roll. Cleo's terms say you have no obligation to repay, and that Cleo may refuse the next advance if an earlier one is still open. The interest article, dated July 25, 2025, says you never pay interest, and that the express fee is the only extra amount, and Cleo is prohibited from taking a tip. It will try not to debit you into an overdraft.
If it debits earlier than the date in the app, or for more than a rescheduled repayment, and the bank charges an overdraft fee, you can ask Cleo to refund that fee. That refund covers Cleo's timing error, not a debit you left scheduled on an empty day.
The savings yield does not pay for the advance
Pro and Builder are the only tiers with a published yield, and that yield sits under the accounts we track. The Plus help article, updated the week of September 24, 2026, prints 2.78% APY effective September 17, 2026, and says the rate is variable. The pricing page still shows 2.75% APY and a 2.72% interest rate, with the effective date printed as 4/6/2026, while the Pro article still describes 2.95% APY. Use the September 17 footnote, and expect another change.
On $10,000, the newer yield is $278 in a year if the rate holds, and the same balance at the average above is $354, a $76 gap before tax. That gap is the cost of leaving the savings inside Cleo. The accounts behind that average are in the high-yield savings guide and the savings ranking.
Cleo says it is not a bank, and Thread Bank, Member FDIC, provides the savings account. Fees may reduce earnings, and the advance is not that deposit. A Builder subscriber can ask for paycheck money up to two days early, and the footnote says Thread Bank generally releases the file the day it arrives, which is not guaranteed. The card is a separate WebBank product, at the deposit in the table, subject to approval, and credit results vary. Pay the Builder price only if you will use the card or the higher advance band.
Credit Builder is not the advance, and neither is the line of credit
Brigit's credit product is a bank loan beside the advance, not a feature of the advance. Instant Cash says Brigit will help you build payment history for as little as the monthly figure in the table. The footnote says results vary, that customers who started at a score of 600 or below were more likely to see a positive change, and that Premium is required.
Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, provides the account, and Brigit says it is not a bank, and that insurance covers the bank's failure through pass-through coverage only if the conditions are met. The terms say the loan sits in a secured account rather than being paid to you upfront, that you make fixed monthly payments, and that missed payments can be reported. Approval sits with the bank, so a marketing line about no approval is not the contract.
The line of credit is a third product: any eligible user can draw $100 to $500, one draw at a time, each draw repaid before the next, with a $15 monthly participation fee whether or not you draw. The same bank issues that account, and it is not offered in every state. Instant Cash does not charge that participation fee, so the subscription, an express fee, and this $15 are three different bills.
Premium is also where the terms put no-cost expedited transfers. The homepage band is the marketed price, while the March 31 terms price Plus up to $9.99 a month, set Premium at the top of the homepage range, and say promo and legacy rates can differ until notice moves you to the current fee. The terms floor for Plus can match Cleo's monthly Plus price, so the number in the app is the one you will pay.
You are not charged on the day you enroll. The fee hits on the last day of the billing period, and canceling still leaves that month's charge, so quitting the week you join does not clear the bill. A declined debit can be retried for up to 14 business days. Brigit says it will try to skip the charge when the balance looks too low, and it is not responsible if the bank still charges an overdraft.
Who should pick which
Brigit fits a checking account that already shows three recurring deposits and a bill that cannot wait two days. Premium is the rational plan if you will use express more than once, because the fee in the table disappears, and it is the plan that includes Credit Builder. It is a poor fit if pay arrives as cash, paper checks, or an irregular schedule, if the account is newer than 60 days, if you live in Maine and need more than the state cap, or if you wanted a chat that remembers a debt plan.
Cleo fits someone who can wait out the free transfer and wants the assistant in the same subscription. Annual Plus is the cheapest published year in this matchup. Pro adds the voice chat and the savings goals. Builder is for the card and the higher advance, and it is a poor fit if the direct-deposit test is out of reach. Cleo is also a poor fit if you need the money today on a regular basis: one same-day fee can erase the subscription savings.
Neither app replaces a savings balance at the average above. The rate log next to that average is the high-yield savings report, and later moves are on the rate tracker. A budget that is not an advance is covered in best budgeting apps and best AI personal finance apps.
How we compared
We read Cleo's pricing page, the Plus, Pro, annual, cash-advance, interest, and eligibility help articles, and the terms updated August 11, 2026. We read Brigit's homepage, Instant Cash page, and terms revised March 31, 2026. The yield set next to these subscriptions is Financeradar's high-yield savings statistics as of September 23, 2026. Nobody opened an account, linked a bank, or requested an advance while this was written. Where a help article and a contract disagree on a day count or an APY, both figures are in the table.
This is general information, not personalized financial advice: an advance can still arrive late, a bank can still charge an overdraft if the repayment debit hits a short balance, and the published maximum is not a promise you will qualify. A commission on a link, if Financeradar is paid one, does not change which app is cheaper for a same-day transfer (how we make money).
FAQ
Which cash advance app is better, Cleo or Brigit?
Brigit is the better cash advance when the money has to arrive the same day. As of September 24, 2026, Premium includes express delivery, and the non-Premium express fee is the range in the table. Cleo is the better app when you can wait 3 to 4 days, because standard delivery is free and Plus has a published annual price. Voice chat and conversation memory are a Cleo Pro feature, not a Brigit one.
How much do Cleo and Brigit cost?
Cleo Plus is $5.99 a month or $44.99 a year. Pro is $8.99 a month with no annual option, and Builder has no annual option either. Twelve months of Plus paid monthly cost $71.88, which is $26.89 more than the annual Plus price.
Brigit's homepage lists a monthly subscription from $8.99 to $15.99. The March 31, 2026 terms price Plus from that same monthly Plus price up to $9.99 and set Premium at the top of the homepage range, with express included. A same-day Cleo transfer adds $4.49 to $14.99, due when you repay, while a non-Premium Brigit express transfer starts at $0.99.
How fast is a Cleo or Brigit cash advance?
Brigit's free delivery takes 2 to 3 business days on the Instant Cash page, and the terms say within three business days. Express typically arrives within 20 minutes if a debit card is linked.
Cleo's help article, updated August 10, 2026, says the free option arrives in 3 to 4 days and the paid option is same-day. The August 11 terms describe that paid option as within 24 hours. Cleo repayment is a date you pick between 3 and 14 days. Brigit's first date is typically the next payday, and an extension in the app has no fee.
Do Cleo or Brigit charge interest or ask for a tip?
No. Cleo's interest article says you never pay interest, and the terms prohibit a tip. The express fee is the only extra amount, and it is optional, so skipping speed keeps the advance at no added cost. Brigit's Instant Cash page says no interest, no tips, and no late fees. Both contracts treat an unpaid advance as non-recourse: they do not describe a lawsuit or a credit-bureau report, and both stop further advances until the open one is repaid. A bank overdraft from the repayment debit is still your bank's fee.
Can I get a Cleo or Brigit advance without paying the subscription?
Yes, and both companies make you ask by email. Cleo's terms say to email team@meetcleo.com and state that you want a cash advance without a subscription, and you still have to qualify. Brigit's Instant Cash footnote says you can email and ask for an advance, or credit monitoring, without a membership. The in-app path on both products is a paid plan. Cleo's free tools are not the advance button, and Brigit's free tools are the budget and the alerts.
Does Cleo or Brigit build credit with the cash advance?
The cash advance itself does not build credit on either app. Brigit's terms say Instant Cash does not affect your credit score. Credit Builder is a separate Coastal Community Bank loan on Premium, reported to the bureaus, and a missed payment can hurt the file the product was meant to help. Cleo's advance is not a credit line: Plus and above show an Equifax score, and Builder adds a WebBank card that requires approval and the deposit in the table. The pricing page says credit results vary, so neither product promises a higher score.
Is a Cleo or Brigit cash advance a good idea if I might miss the repayment?
Only if missing it is a pause you can live with, not a free loan you can repeat. Both companies say they will not collect or sue on the unpaid advance, and both say they will not offer another one until it is repaid. Brigit may still debit a later deposit even when that deposit is smaller than the balance owed. Cleo tries to avoid an overdraft and will review a fee caused by debiting earlier, or for more, than the app showed. The subscription can keep billing after the advance is stuck, so the membership cost continues while the next advance is frozen.
