Credit Card Cash Advance Fees in 2026: Fee and APR by Card
Fee, APR and first-month cost of a card cash advance for seven cards from four issuers, from terms read October 10, 2026.
For a $500 cash advance repaid after one month, the cheapest card in this table is a Chase card at $36.98 in total: a $25 fee plus about $12 of interest. Three Chase cards tie on that figure. Bilt Blue costs less than the Chase cards on advances below roughly $180 to $190, because its minimum fee is $5, half the minimum everywhere else.
FinanceRadar data: the 65 credit cards we track average a $135 annual fee as of October 10, 2026 (credit card statistics). A cash advance is priced on its own terms: a percentage of the amount with a minimum, plus a separate APR. Those terms decide what a short loan costs, and the annual fee does not enter into it. For the other fees on these cards, including annual, late and foreign fees, see credit card fees compared.
Cash advance fees and APRs by card
Every rate and fee below comes from the issuer's own terms, read October 10, 2026. Rows are sorted by the first-month total, which adds the fee and one month of interest. The worked example further down shows the arithmetic.
| Card | Cash advance fee | Cash advance APR | First month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Reserve | Greater of $10 or 5% | 28.74% variable | $36.98 |
| Citi Strata Premier | Greater of $10 or 5% | 29.49% variable | $37.29 |
| Wells Fargo Active Cash, Wells Fargo Autograph | Greater of $10 or 5% | 29.74% variable | $37.39 |
| Bilt Blue | Greater of $5 or 5% | 31.74% to 34.74% variable | $38.23 to $39.48 |
Cards inside each group carry identical cash advance terms on the issuer's sheet. Bilt's sheet also covers Bilt Obsidian and Bilt Palladium, with the same cash advance fee and APR range.
How the fee and the APR are set
Each card here charges the greater of a percentage of the advance and a fixed minimum. The percentage is 5% on every card in the table. The minimum decides the fee on small amounts: the percentage only wins once the advance passes $200 on the Chase, Citi and Wells Fargo cards, or $100 on Bilt Blue. Bilt Blue's $5 minimum applies up to $100, and the minimum on the other cards applies up to $200. On a $500 advance the percentage wins on every card here.
The APR is a separate line on each sheet, and it is the number that matters for a short loan. Chase, Wells Fargo and Bilt each set it as prime plus a fixed margin, with a cap. Chase adds 21.74 points to prime and caps the rate at 29.99%. Wells Fargo adds 22.74 points with the same cap. Bilt adds 24.99 to 27.99 points with a 35.99% cap. Citi's page prints the finished rate, 29.49%, and no margin. Because the Chase, Wells Fargo and Bilt rates follow prime, they move when prime moves. Chase's sheet dates its 7.00% prime to September 22, 2026.
Chase's sheets say "each transaction" where Wells Fargo says "each advance." We read both as the same charge on a cash advance.
Chase: one fee and one APR across three cards
The Sapphire Preferred, Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire Reserve pages each link to a separate Chase pricing and terms sheet: Preferred, Freedom Unlimited and Reserve. All three state the same cash advance terms: a 5% fee with a minimum, and a variable APR set as prime plus 21.74 points. The sheets are accurate as of September 22, 2026. On these cards the cash advance cost does not separate one card from another, so choose on rewards, travel protections and the annual fee. Among the seven cards here, 28.74% is the lowest cash advance APR. Buyers who compare cards on interest more broadly can start with the low interest credit cards guide.
Wells Fargo: the same fee, a higher APR
The Active Cash and Autograph terms use the same 5% fee and the same fixed minimum as the Chase sheets, so the fee is not the difference. The difference is the APR: prime plus 22.74 points, capped at 29.99%, which comes to 29.74% with prime at 7.00% on October 10, 2026. Wells Fargo's Autograph terms say its rates and fees are correct as of September 2026. The rate moves with prime, so it can change without a new revision. Our Autograph review covers the rest of that card and cites the same cash advance terms.
Citi Strata Premier and Bilt Blue
Citi's pricing details for the Strata Premier set the fee as the greater of 5% or a fixed minimum, the same structure as the Chase and Wells Fargo cards. The page prints a variable cash advance APR of 29.49%. It shows no effective date for those figures, so the date on this page is the day we read them, October 10, 2026. The Strata Premier page covers the rest of the card.
Bilt's rates and fees sheet covers three cards, Bilt Blue, Bilt Obsidian and Bilt Palladium. For the Blue card it sets the cash advance fee at the greater of $5 or 5% of each advance, the lowest minimum in this table. The cash advance APR is 31.74% to 34.74% variable, prime plus 24.99 to 27.99 points, capped at 35.99%. The sheet's prime index is 6.75% as of January 14, 2026, not 7.00%, so the range is the sheet's own figure and may sit a quarter point below the rate at today's prime. The Bilt Blue page has the card's other details.
Worked example: one month of fees and interest
5% of $500 is $25, which beats the minimum. Interest for one month is $500 x 28.74% / 12, or $11.98 on the Chase cards, which makes the first month $36.98. The same method gives $12.29 on Citi at 29.49%, $12.39 on Wells Fargo at 29.74%, and $13.23 to $14.48 on Bilt Blue at 31.74% to 34.74%. The first-month totals are therefore $37.29 for Citi, $37.39 for Wells Fargo and $38.23 to $39.48 for Bilt Blue.
On this scenario the Chase cards are the cheapest of the seven, and Bilt Blue costs $1.25 to $2.50 more. Dividing the APR by 12 treats one month as a twelfth of a year. That makes the cards easy to compare, but it is not the figure on a statement, which depends on how many days the balance is outstanding and on the card's daily rate.
Where the ranking flips
Small advances change the order. On a $100 advance, 5% comes to $5, so the minimum sets the fee on every card in the table. The Chase, Citi and Wells Fargo cards then charge 10% of the advance, and the one-month cost is $12.40 to $12.48. Bilt Blue charges its lower minimum, and the one-month cost is $7.65 to $7.90.
The order changes again as the advance grows. Against the Chase cards, Bilt Blue stays cheaper until the advance reaches roughly $180 to $190, depending on which of its rates applies. Past that point Bilt's fee keeps growing with the advance, while the Chase fee stays at $10 until $200, and Bilt's higher APR adds to the gap. Above roughly $190, the Chase cards are the cheapest choice on either Bilt rate, because their APR is the lowest in the table and their fee formula matches Citi and Wells Fargo.
What the table leaves out
We include a card only when its own page or issuer sheet gives both a cash advance fee and an APR on the day we read it. Several well-known cards did not meet that bar today: Amex Gold, Capital One Venture X, Citi Double Cash, Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards, Discover it Cash Back and Apple Card. A card can still publish cash advance terms in its full rates sheet, so check that sheet before you borrow on a card that is missing here.
How we compared
Each issuer figure was read on the issuer's own page or sheet on October 10, 2026. The scenario is one advance repaid after one month. The fee is the greater of the percentage and the minimum, and interest is the advance times the APR, divided by 12, a monthly approximation. The Chase sheets are dated September 22, 2026, Wells Fargo's rates are correct as of September 2026 with prime at 7.00% on October 10, and Bilt's sheet uses a prime index dated January 14, 2026.

FAQ
What is the cash advance fee on a credit card?
Every card in this table charges the greater of 5% of the advance or a fixed minimum: $10 on the Chase, Citi and Wells Fargo cards and $5 on Bilt Blue.
What is the cash advance APR on Chase Sapphire Preferred?
It is 28.74% variable on Chase's pricing and terms sheet, accurate as of September 22, 2026. The rate is prime plus 21.74 points, capped at 29.99%. The Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire Reserve sheets show the same figure.
How much does a $500 cash advance cost for one month?
The Chase cards total $36.98: a $25 fee plus $11.98 of interest at their rate. Citi's Strata Premier totals $37.29 and the Wells Fargo cards $37.39. Bilt Blue ranges from $38.23 to $39.48, depending on which of its APRs applies.
Is the cash advance fee the same for small amounts?
No. The minimum applies until the percentage passes it, so on the Chase, Citi and Wells Fargo cards the minimum sets the fee for any advance up to $200. A small advance therefore costs a larger share of the money borrowed. Bilt Blue's lower minimum applies up to $100.
Does a 0% introductory APR apply to cash advances?
Not on the Cash Plus card. U.S. Bank's Cash Plus page says its introductory rate does not apply to cash advances. Check each card's terms for the same rule before you borrow.
Is a card cash advance the same as a cash advance app?
No. A cash advance app sends part of a paycheck early, while a card cash advance draws on your credit line at the rates above. Our best cash advance apps guide prices the app side.
