What is Stripe Payments?

Sources read on the date shown
Stripe Payments is Stripe's card processing for US businesses. It suits small businesses that sell on a website, send invoices or share payment links, and that may also want a card reader for sales in person. There is no monthly fee and no setup fee: you pay a percentage of each sale. A domestic card costs 2.9% + 30¢ online or on a payment link, and 2.7% + 5¢ in person with a Stripe reader. Extras are added on top: 0.5% when a card is typed in by hand, 1.5% for international cards and 1% when a currency has to be converted. Invoices add 0.4% per paid invoice on the Starter plan, bank (ACH) debits cost 0.8% capped at $5, and an instant payout to a debit card costs 1.5% with a 50¢ minimum. Card readers start at $59, and Tap to Pay on a phone adds 10¢ per payment. One thing to know: Stripe charges $15 for every dispute a customer opens and does not return that fee, even if you win, and it keeps the processing fee when you refund a sale. New accounts also wait for their money: the first payout typically takes 7 to 14 days, and Stripe can place a reserve on part of your funds if it sees risk.
