Annual fee read on the card page; Discover's Prime Cardmember Agreement Pricing Schedule (https://www.discover.com/content/dam/discover/en_us/credit-cards/card-portfolio/docs/cma/Prime_Cardmember_Agreement_033126.pdf, 'example of terms ... available to recent applicants as of 03/31/26') also says 'Annual Fee None'. Foreign fee: the card page never mentions it and the Pricing Schedule's fee table lists only annual, balance transfer, cash advance, late and returned payment fees, with no foreign transaction row; our stored 'no foreign fee' is consistent with that table but no Discover document says 'none', so status is not_stated. Discover is now 'a division of Capital One, N.A.'. The old URL /credit-cards/cash-back/chrome-card.html lands on page-not-found in a browser; the live page is /credit-cards/cash-back/chrome/.

no annual fee to earn back

On $22,500 of annual spending at Discover it Chrome's base rate of 1%, which earns $225 a year. This is a floor: it counts only the rate that applies to every purchase, so bonus categories can push it higher, never lower. Points and miles are valued at 1 cent each, what they are worth as cash back. Transferring to airline or hotel partners can be worth more, but only when award seats exist, so we leave that out of the guaranteed figure.

What is Discover it Chrome?

Sources read on the date shown
The Discover it Chrome is a no-annual-fee cash back card with a fixed bonus structure: 2% at gas stations and restaurants with no activation and no rotating calendar, plus 1% on everything else. It is the simpler sibling of the Discover it Cash Back, trading that card's rotating 5% categories for two everyday categories that never change. The numbers: 2% cash back applies to the first $1,000 in combined gas station and restaurant purchases each quarter, then 1%. That cap means the bonus categories add at most $20 per quarter over a plain 1% card, or $80 a year. The real payoff is Cashback Match: Discover automatically doubles all the cash back you earn in your first year, with no cap and no minimum spend. Max out the categories and the first year works out to an effective 4% on gas and dining and 2% on everything else, and typical spenders see the match add $150 to $400. The card also moonlights as a balance transfer tool. New cardholders get 0% intro APR for 6 months on purchases and 18 months on balance transfers, with a 3% intro transfer fee (up to 5% on future transfers). After the intro periods, a 17.49% to 26.49% variable APR applies. An 18-month 0% transfer window on a rewards card is unusual; most issuers reserve terms that long for cards that earn nothing. Know the limits. The $1,000 quarterly cap is combined across both categories, so a household spending $250 a month on gas alone will blow past it. The 1% base rate trails the flat 2% no-fee cards from Citi and Wells Fargo. And while Discover charges no foreign transaction fee, its acceptance outside the United States lags Visa and Mastercard badly, so it makes a poor travel companion. Cashback Match is a one-time, first-year event: from year two onward this is an $80-a-year bonus category card. Get it if you spend moderately on gas and dining, want rewards without managing categories, or need a long 0% balance transfer runway while still earning something. Skip it if you spend heavily in the bonus categories, since the cap will throttle you, if you want one card for everything, where a 2% flat-rate card earns more, or if you regularly travel internationally.

Discover it Chrome FAQ

What does the Discover it Chrome earn?

2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants on up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter, automatically, then 1%. All other purchases earn an unlimited 1%.

How does Cashback Match work?

At the end of your first year, Discover doubles all the cash back you earned, automatically, with no cap and no minimum. Someone who earned $200 gets another $200. It applies once, to the first year only.

What are the intro APR terms?

0% for 6 months on purchases and 0% for 18 months on balance transfers, with a 3% intro transfer fee (up to 5% on future transfers). After that, a 17.49% to 26.49% variable APR applies.

Is the Discover it Chrome good for international travel?

Not really. It charges no foreign transaction fee, but Discover network acceptance outside the US is much thinner than Visa or Mastercard, so you may struggle to use it abroad.

Chrome or the regular Discover it Cash Back?

The Discover it Cash Back earns 5% in rotating quarterly categories that require activation; Chrome earns a flat 2% on gas and restaurants year round with nothing to manage. Pick Chrome for simplicity and steady gas and dining spend, the Cash Back for higher ceilings if you track categories.
