Is it worth it?
About $300 a month in card fees on $10,000 of in-person sales
A small shop taking $10,000 a month in card payments, in 400 sales of $25, would pay about $300 a month in total on the Standard plan: $300 in card fees (2.6% + 10¢ on 400 sales of $25) and no monthly software fee. Hardware is not included, and rates change, so the date above matters.
Read this before you sign up
- The default plan is a card reader plan, not a full POS. Several devices, floor plans and loyalty need a paid plan.
- The full SumUp POS starts at $99 a month through the sales team, so your real price depends on the quote.
- Loyalty tools are billed on top, monthly: $269 or $349.
- SumUp processes your payments as a registered payment facilitator of Fifth Third Bank, under its own merchant account rather than one in your name.

What is SumUp POS?
SumUp is a good fit when you want to start small and keep fixed costs at zero. The default plan has no monthly fee, and you pay 2.6% + 10¢ for a card present in person, or 3.5% + 15¢ for online and keyed-in payments. SumUp also says there are no monthly minimums and no hardware rentals, so a slow month costs you nothing extra.
Hardware is bought outright. The SumUp Plus reader is $54, the Solo reader with its own screen is $99, and the Terminal with a built-in printer is $249. If you need more than payments, POS Plus is $49 a month and adds multi-device sync, floor plans and cash drawer tracking. The full SumUp POS starts at $99 a month and is sold through the sales team, so there is no firm price on the page until you ask for a quote.
Payouts arrive the next day on every plan. SumUp says you can cancel anytime, and its shop lists a 30-day money-back guarantee. The default plan also comes with a free business account and business Visa card.
