Good to know before you file

  • You need a Cash App account (with phone verification) to use it. Cash App is a financial services platform, not a bank.
  • State filing is limited: one state, full-year residents only, no part-year or non-resident returns, and you must e-file the federal return with Cash App Taxes first. Its list covers 40 states.
  • A list of forms and situations is not supported. If your return needs one, you cannot file with it at all. The list we read was posted for tax year 2024, so check it before you start.
  • Its guarantees pay out as gift cards, not cash, with caps ($100 and $1,000), claim deadlines and decisions at its own discretion.
  • "Up to 5 days early" is an estimate based on tax year 2024 filings, not a promise.
  • Support is by email only. There is no tax-expert help to buy, and the audit defense terms we could read were for tax year 2024 returns.

What is Cash App Taxes?

Sources read on the date shown
Cash App Taxes is a free tax filing service run by Cash App Taxes, Inc., part of Block, Inc., the company behind Cash App. It used to be Credit Karma Tax and was renamed in October 2021. There is one plan and it costs nothing: federal and state, including freelance income on Schedule C (the form for self-employment), stock and crypto sales, rental income, itemized deductions and the education and child credits. The catch is practical rather than financial. You need a Cash App account to log in, and you must be a U.S. resident aged 18 or older. State filing works for one state at a time, for people who lived there all year, in 40 states according to the vendor's list, and only after you e-file your federal return with Cash App Taxes. A list of forms and situations is not supported, and if your return needs one of them you cannot file with it at all. There are no paid plans, but also no tax-expert help to buy. Support is by email. The prices on this page are what the vendor showed on October 14, 2026, which is the 2025 filing season; the pages do not name a tax year, and some help articles are still dated for tax year 2024. We will re-check when the new season opens.
