Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Review 2026: Is the $95 Fee Worth It?
What the annual fee buys: the anniversary Free Night Award, 6X Marriott earn rates, automatic Silver status, a dated airline credit and the APR risk.
Short answer: the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless is worth its annual fee if you book at least one Marriott Bonvoy hotel a year that costs more than $95 in cash and falls within the anniversary Free Night Award's 35,000-point ceiling. Chase's card page lists that fee, a 6X earn rate at participating hotels and the yearly award, as read on October 10, 2026. Without Marriott stays, the only statement credit that offsets the fee is an airline credit that ends June 30, 2027.
FinanceRadar data: we verify 65 credit cards with a published annual fee, and their average fee is $135 as of October 10, 2026, within a range of $0 to $895 (credit card statistics). At this card's fee, it sits $40 under that average, so the fee alone does not decide it. The award does.
What Chase charges, and where the APR bites
Chase's pricing and terms document, which the card page links, is dated as of September 22, 2026. It sets the annual fee at $95 and the purchase APR at 19.49% to 27.99% variable. The rate depends on creditworthiness and moves with the Prime Rate, which the document lists at 7.00%. Any variable rate on the card tops out at 29.99%, and the table covers the other charges that matter here.
| Charge | What the document lists |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | $95 |
| Purchase APR | 19.49% to 27.99% variable |
| Cash advance | $10 or 5%, whichever is greater, at a 28.74% APR |
| Balance transfer | $5 or 5%, whichever is greater |
| Foreign transactions | None |
| Late payment | Up to $40 |
| Chase Pay Over Time | Up to 1.72% a month of each eligible purchase |
The APR is where the fee math turns. On a $1,000 balance at the 19.49% low end, one year of simple interest is about $195, more than twice the annual fee. Chase charges no interest on new purchases when you pay the full balance by the due date, and the award math only works if you do. Revolving costs across the cards we track are in the credit card APR report.
The anniversary Free Night Award does the work
Each account anniversary, the card gives one Free Night Award for a stay at a property with a redemption level up to 35,000 points. The account must be open and not in default on the anniversary date, and the award expires 12 months after it is issued. It cannot be combined with cash. Chase says it can be combined with Marriott Bonvoy points under Marriott's terms. Cardmembers also pay incidental charges such as parking and any mandatory resort fee, so take those out of the room price before you compare.
Here is the break-even. Take a hypothetical $180 room with no resort fee that you would otherwise book for cash. The award replaces that $180 of spending, so the year nets $85 after the fee. A room that costs exactly the fee nets nothing, and any cheaper room leaves you paying for the card. Check the property's redemption level before you count on the award, because a hotel above 35,000 points falls outside it.
Earn rates: 6X at Marriott, 3X on food and gas, 2X elsewhere
The card earns 6X points per dollar at more than 7,000 participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. Chase adds that members can earn up to 10X from Marriott for membership and up to 1X from Silver Elite status, which brings a hotel stay to up to 17X. Outside hotels, the card pays 3X on the first $6,000 a year at grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants, a tier worth at most 18,000 points a year. Everything else earns 2X. Points do not expire as long as you make a card purchase at least every 24 months.
The 6X rate only matters if Marriott is your hotel chain. American Express's Brilliant card earns the same 6X at participating Marriott hotels, so the hotel rate does not separate the two cards. The fee and the award do.
Elite status: automatic Silver and a $35,000 path to Gold
Chase says the card provides automatic Silver Elite status each calendar year, as long as the account is open and not in default. It also credits 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year, with restrictions, plus one Elite Night Credit for every $5,000 you spend. Gold requires $35,000 of purchases within a calendar year, and that count resets on January 1.
Chase's card page explains the path to Gold but does not list what Gold adds. Count Silver and the 15 credits as the status value, and leave any Gold perk out of the math until you can confirm it in Marriott's own terms. If Gold status through a premium card is the real goal, the Platinum fee review prices that card's fee and credits.
The welcome offer and the airline credit have end dates
The new cardmember offer is 3 Free Night Awards after $3,000 in eligible purchases within 3 months of account opening. Each covers one night at a property with a redemption level up to 50,000 points, a higher ceiling than the anniversary award. Chase says the awards can take up to 8 weeks to arrive, and each expires 12 months after issue. If the account is not open for at least 6 months, Marriott and Chase reserve the right to deduct the three awards. Offers can vary by where you apply, so the offer on screen when you apply is the one that counts.
Eligibility can block the bonus. Holding a Premier, Rewards Premier, Boundless, Rewards Premier Plus or Bold card from Chase blocks it, and so does a new cardmember bonus on one of those within the last 24 months. Recent bonuses on American Express cards such as Brilliant, Bevy and the Marriott and Starwood business cards also block it, under windows that run from 30 days to 24 months.
The airline credit is dated, not a standing yearly benefit. Chase's page describes two $50 statement credits for new cardmembers who apply between June 4 and December 31, 2026. The first comes after $250 of purchases made directly with airlines from June 4 to December 31, 2026, and the second after $250 more from January 1 to June 30, 2027. The total is up to $100 through June 30, 2027. Existing cardmembers follow separate windows. If you already fly and the credit applies, the $100 covers the fee once, and it does not repeat.
How it compares with Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant from American Express lists a $650 annual fee on its card page, as read on October 10, 2026. That is $555 more than the Boundless fee. For the gap, Brilliant gives one award each year after the card renewal month, for a room at or under 85,000 points. It also includes Platinum Elite status, 25 Elite Night Credits and up to $300 a year in restaurant credits, capped at $25 a month. Its award ceiling is more than twice the Boundless ceiling.
The choice is arithmetic. Brilliant's extra $555 is worth paying only if your target rooms sit above 35,000 points and you spend enough at restaurants to use the $300 credit. The Boundless makes more sense for a Marriott guest who stays at properties up to 35,000 points and does not want to pay $555 more for a higher ceiling. The hotel card guide ranks the wider field.
Who should pay the fee, and who should skip it
Pay the fee if you book at least one Marriott Bonvoy hotel a year, the room would cost more than the annual fee in cash after any resort fee, you pay the statement in full each month, and you want automatic Silver status without Brilliant's $650 fee.
Skip it if your hotel nights are spread across chains, because the Marriott benefits then have little to offset. For a card that is not tied to one chain, see Chase Sapphire Preferred or the travel credit card guide. Skip it if you carry a balance at the card's APR, since interest on a $1,000 balance alone exceeds the fee within a year. Skip it if most of your rooms sit above 35,000 points and you need the higher ceiling, which points you to Brilliant. Skip it too if a Chase or American Express Marriott card you hold or recently earned a bonus on blocks the welcome offer, because the three welcome awards are the largest first-year benefit the card offers.
Four things that cut the value
- Resort fees and parking are yours. Chase puts mandatory resort fees and incidental charges on the cardmember, even on a Free Night Award.
- Awards expire. The welcome and anniversary awards each last 12 months after issue.
- Closing early costs the welcome awards. Marriott and Chase reserve the right to deduct them if the account is open less than 6 months.
- Pay Over Time carries a fee. Chase lists up to 1.72% of each eligible purchase, charged monthly. On a $1,000 plan, that is up to $17.20 a month.
How we checked
We read Chase's Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card page and the pricing and terms document it links, both as read on October 10, 2026. The document says its cost information is accurate as of September 22, 2026. For the Brilliant comparison, we read the American Express card page the same day. The average fee comes from our own credit card statistics, last updated October 10, 2026. We did not apply for the card or book a Marriott stay, so the break-even figures are arithmetic on published terms, not a test. See how we rate for our method.
This page is general information, not personalized financial advice. Chase says rates, fees and terms may change, so confirm the APR, the annual fee and the welcome offer with Chase before you apply.
If a link on this page earns Financeradar a commission, the fee math above does not change (how we make money).
FAQ
Is the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless worth its fee in 2026?
It is worth the fee for a Marriott guest who books at least one stay a year that costs more than the annual fee in cash and falls within the 35,000-point award ceiling. The anniversary Free Night Award does most of the work, with the 6X hotel rate and automatic Silver status as extras. Without Marriott stays, little on the card offsets the fee, and the airline credit that could cover it expires on June 30, 2027.
How much is the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless annual fee?
Chase lists the annual fee at $95 on its card page and in its pricing and terms document, which is dated as of September 22, 2026.
Does the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless charge a foreign transaction fee?
No. Chase's pricing and terms document lists foreign transactions as none, as of September 22, 2026. Cash advances are a separate charge: $10 or 5% of the amount, whichever is greater, at a 28.74% APR.
What is the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless APR?
The purchase APR is 19.49% to 27.99% variable, based on creditworthiness, with a maximum of 29.99%. On a $1,000 balance at the 19.49% low end, one year of simple interest is about $195, which is more than twice the annual fee. Paying the full statement each month avoids that interest.
How many Free Night Awards does the welcome offer give?
Three. Chase's page says new cardmembers earn 3 Free Night Awards after $3,000 in eligible purchases within 3 months of account opening. Each covers a one-night stay at a property with a redemption level up to 50,000 points, and each expires 12 months after it is issued.
Does the Free Night Award cover resort fees?
No. Chase says cardmembers are responsible for incidental charges such as parking, and for mandatory resort fees at properties that charge them. Subtract that fee from the room's cash rate before you compare the award with the annual fee.
