Best high-interest checking accounts (2026)

The highest checking APY is a debit test. Budget the rate that survives a quiet month.

TL;DR

Short answer, read on issuer pages on September 23, 2026: the checking account with the highest published APY is Quontic High Interest Checking, at 1.10% APY, and only after 10 debit purchases of $10 or more in the statement cycle. Miss them and the same sheet pays 0.01% APY. SoFi Checking pays 0.50% APY on the checking balance with no debit test. Ally Interest Checking pays 0.25% APY only once the balance is $15,000 or more, and 0.10% APY below that line.

Financeradar data: of the 14 checking accounts we verify, the highest published APY is 1.10% and the average is 0.45% (rates checked October 2026; we have logged 90 dated rate checks since September 2026). That average mixes accounts that print a yield with accounts that pay none, so it will not tell you what a debit balance earns.

The rate worth opening for is the one that survives the month you will actually have. Quontic fits a household that will post the debit purchases. SoFi fits checking dollars that should earn whether or not the card moves. Ally fits a balance that will stay on the higher tier in the comparison table. The full checking list includes accounts that pay less or nothing. This page keeps the yields a buyer would open for, plus the accounts that look like they pay and do not.

The rank is a fit test, and it is general information, not personalized financial advice. Order follows the APY on the checking balance, then whether a missed debit test or a thin balance reprices it, then the fee that remains when a waiver fails. A commission on some of these links does not buy a higher rank (how we make money).

Spenders who will post ten qualifying debit purchases every cycle.

+Quontic's rate sheet, accurate as of September 23, 2026, pays a 1.09% interest rate and 1.10% APY on every tier, including balances above $1,000,000, after the debit test. The yield covers the whole balance for someone who will post the purchases.
+There is no monthly maintenance fee, no minimum daily balance, and no overdraft fee, so a quiet balance does not also pick up a monthly charge. The checking page lists 90,000 surcharge-free ATMs, and Quontic Bank is FDIC-insured.
+The missed-test rate is printed on the same sheet, so a quiet cycle is a known 0.01% APY rather than a surprise waiver.
−All 10 purchases have to be point-of-sale debits at or above the minimum in the comparison table. ATM withdrawals, transfers, and peer-to-peer payments do not count, and the opening deposit is $100, so a transfer-heavy month can fail the test.
−Quontic's fee schedule, dated February 15, 2022, lists a $5 monthly charge once an account is dormant, a $25 outgoing domestic wire plus correspondent fees, and a $20 stop payment. That schedule is older than the rate sheet, so confirm the wire before a large transfer.

A checking balance that should earn interest with no debit test.

+SoFi's rate sheet, effective May 28, 2026, pays 0.50% APY on checking at all balances, for SoFi Plus members and for everyone else, with or without direct deposit. The interest rate on that row is 0.49886%, and a paycheck does not raise it.
+The fee sheet, effective May 18, 2026, lists the monthly maintenance fee, the minimum balance fee, the overdraft fee, and the inactive-account fee at no charge. Allpoint ATM transactions are free, and SoFi does not add its own fee at other ATMs, though it will not rebate an owner fee.
+Opening checking also opens savings at SoFi Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, with an optional program that can extend insurance past the standard cap.
−An outgoing domestic wire is $30. An outgoing instant transfer costs 0.75% of the amount, with a floor of $1 and a ceiling of $30. A partner cash deposit can run as high as $4.95, and that charge comes from the partner rather than from SoFi.
−The savings APY is not the checking APY. With eligible direct deposit or $5,000 in qualifying deposits every 31 days, savings earns 3.10% APY on that sheet. Without that activity or SoFi Plus, savings earns 0.80% APY. Checking stays on the same row either way.

A large checking balance that should earn a printed APY.

+Ally's spending page, correct as of September 22, 2026, pays 0.10% APY under the balance line in the comparison table and 0.25% APY once the balance reaches that line. There is no minimum to open, and monthly maintenance, overdraft items, and a low daily balance are free.
+Allpoint and MoneyPass ATMs in the U.S. are free, and Ally rebates other ATM fees up to the cap in the comparison table. Ally's rates page shows savings at 3% APY on that same date, which is a separate account for cash that does not need to stay in checking.
+CoverDraft covers up to $100 with no overdraft fee once you have deposited that amount and waited 30 days, and the limit becomes $250 after a qualifying direct deposit at that level for two months in a row. Ally Bank is a Member FDIC.
−There are no branches, so cash deposits at a teller are out. An outgoing domestic wire is the price in the comparison table. International debit transactions cost up to 1%, and a balance under the higher tier earns the lower APY on the whole account.
−Early direct deposit, up to two days, still depends on when the payroll file arrives. A year at the higher tier on a balance sitting on that line is $37.50 before tax, which is not a savings return.

Branch or cafe access when you will confirm the yield in the account.

+Capital One's checking page, as of September 23, 2026, says the account earns interest, compounded and credited monthly, with no minimum balance to obtain the disclosed APY. There is no monthly fee, no minimum to open or keep, and no overdraft fee, which fits a branch or cafe user who can live without a public yield.
+ATM access with no Capital One fee includes 70,000+ machines across Capital One, MoneyPass, and Allpoint. The account FAQ says foreign transactions carry no Capital One fee, and the balance is FDIC-insured through Capital One, N.A.
+The first 50-count checkbook is free. No-fee overdraft that approves an item below zero still needs deposits of at least $250 in two of the previous three calendar months, and a declined item is not charged. Without those deposits, a shortfall is not covered.
−The public page describes five balance tiers, from under $10,000 through $100,000 and above, and the APY field on each tier does not print a number. Interest posts only if the month rounds to at least $0.01. Read the yield inside the account, because a blank on the issuer page is not a published rate.
−An outgoing domestic wire costs the price in the comparison table, online or by phone, and a branch international wire is $40. A cashier's check at a Capital One location is priced on the disclosures, and the expedited online version is $20. Any Capital One or Discover Bank deposit opened on or after May 18, 2025 counts together for FDIC coverage.

People who travel and will keep a Schwab One brokerage open.

+Schwab's January 2026 pricing guide says Investor Checking is a variable-rate, interest-bearing account with no monthly service charge. Tiers start at a zero balance through $2,499.99, then $2,500, $10,000, $50,000, $100,000, and $500,000 and above. A small balance and a large one do not earn the same rate, and you still have to call for the number.
+Schwab does not charge an ATM fee, rebates operator fees on cash withdrawals worldwide, and charges no foreign-exchange transaction fee on debit purchases. There is no overdraft fee. The reason to open it is travel, not a yield the public guide will quote.
+The checking account is opened at Charles Schwab Bank, SSB, Member FDIC. Opened with this checking account, the Schwab One brokerage has no minimum and does not have to be funded. It is the way in, not more insured cash.
−The guide says to call for current rates, so there is no APY to quote here. The account exists only as a link to a Schwab One brokerage, and that brokerage is not FDIC-insured and can lose value.
−An outgoing domestic wire is $25 at the higher price, or the online price in the comparison table. Schwab can modify or discontinue the ATM rebate, so next year's trip is not guaranteed the same refund. Wires in foreign currency are not accepted.

A savings pocket when the checking section itself can pay nothing.

+OnePay's rates-and-fees schedule, effective August 20, 2026, pays 3.35% APY, with a 3.30% interest rate, on savings pockets, including Pay Autosave. There is no minimum balance to open or to obtain that APY, and interest accrues daily. Checking will not match that pocket.
+The same schedule lists both the monthly fee and the overdraft fee at zero. Allpoint ATM withdrawals are not charged by OnePay. Deposits are FDIC-insured through Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, up to the standard cap, and a second app at either partner shares that cap.
+The checking section, including teen checking, is labeled non-interest bearing, so the zero yield sits on the same page as the savings yield.
−Checking is 0.00% APY. Money left in the spending section earns nothing while the pocket next to it earns the savings rate. A withdrawal at an ATM outside Allpoint costs $3, before any fee the machine owner adds.
−An instant transfer out costs 1.75% of the amount, with a minimum of $0.25. OnePay Advance costs 3% of the advance when the account was opened on or before August 20, 2026, and 5% when it was opened after that date. Fee-free overdraft in the help article still asks for $500 or more in monthly direct deposits.

A separate savings balance when the checking account should pay nothing.

+Varo's savings page, accurate as of July 1, 2026, starts at 1.00% APY and pays 3.75% APY on up to $5,000 the next month after $1,000 in direct deposits and a positive balance in all Varo accounts at month-end. Balances above that cap stay at the base rate. None of that yield is checking interest.
+The bank-account page says there is no monthly fee, no overdraft fee, and no minimum balance fee. In-network withdrawals are free on a network of 40,000+ ATMs, and cash deposits at CVS are free on that page. Varo Bank is FDIC-insured.
+If the checking balance will not cover a charge, Varo declines or returns it and still does not charge an overdraft fee. That is a spending control, not a yield.
−The bank account agreement says the checking account is not interest-bearing and that no interest will be paid. The higher savings figure applies only up to the cap in the pro, and only after the deposit test.
−The live bank-account page lists a $3.50 fee for out-of-network and international ATM withdrawals. A 2022 account agreement still prints $2.50 for that withdrawal, so confirm the fee in the app before you rely on the older document.

Debit rewards in named categories when a paycheck will land here.

+Upgrade's disclosure says Rewards Checking Preferred does not earn APY, and it has no monthly maintenance fee and no overdraft fee. Allpoint ATMs are free, and the account can be opened with no minimum balance. The draw is a debit reward.
+With the monthly direct deposit in the comparison table, set up within 60 days of opening, debit purchases in named everyday categories earn 2% cash back, capped at the rewards limit in that table, which is $25,000 of eligible purchases.
+Deposits are insured up to the standard cap through Cross River Bank or participating institutions, by FDIC or NCUA as Upgrade describes it. Direct deposits under $5,000 may be available up to two days early, and Upgrade does not guarantee that timing.
−Miss that monthly direct deposit and the account earns no cash back. Groceries, travel, rent, and general retailers sit outside the 2% categories. An outbound domestic wire is the price in the comparison table, and foreign debit purchases cost 3%.
−Performance Savings, not checking, pays 3.30% APY with that direct deposit, effective September 18, 2026, and 1.5% APY otherwise on a figure dated June 1, 2023. The same page also states up to 3.05% APY, so quote the dated disclosure rather than the looser line.

A branch account you already have, priced as a fee and not a yield.

+Chase's product guide states that Total Checking does not earn interest. The account includes a debit card, checks, and FDIC insurance up to the maximum the bank describes. Keep it for the branch.
+The monthly service fee is waived in a statement period with $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, a $1,500 balance at the beginning of each day, the combined balance in the comparison table, or a link to a qualifying Chase checking account. Miss all of those and the fee returns on an account that earns nothing.
+Chase does not charge an overdraft fee when you are overdrawn by $50 or less at the end of the day. Zelle, cash, checks, and wires do not count as the qualifying electronic deposits that waive the monthly fee.
−If none of the waivers hit, the monthly service fee is $15. That is the price in a month between deposits, and there is no APY to offset it.
−When Chase pays an overdraft item that takes the account more than $50 below zero, the fee is $34 per transaction during nightly processing, with a maximum of three fees a business day. A declined item is not charged that fee, and transactions of $5 or less are excluded.

Other Checking Accounts worth considering

Beyond the editorial top picks, these are also strong choices we evaluated.

What a high-interest checking account is, and what it is not

A high-interest checking account is a deposit account you can spend from that also pays a variable APY on the checking balance. The rate is often conditional. A savings pocket next to that balance is a different product.

Interest checking on the FDIC national rates table stood at 0.07% as of September 21, 2026, for the $2,500 tier. Savings on that table was 0.37%, and money market was 0.63%. A checking yield above the national interest-checking print is real, and it is still the wrong shelf for cash that can sit for a year. FDIC insurance generally covers $250,000 for one depositor, at one bank, in one ownership category, and a second app at that bank does not raise the cap.

The checking line is the only rate that answers this page. On Quontic's rate sheet, accurate as of September 23, 2026, the qualifying checking yield applies from the first dollar through balances above $1,000,000, and only after the debit test. Miss that test and the low rate on the sheet hits the entire balance, not a leftover slice. The same sheet pays 3.90% APY on the money market, last updated September 1, 2026, and 3.20% APY on high-yield savings, last updated May 14, 2026. Those are not the checking account. Cash that does not need a debit card belongs in the high-yield savings guide.

Branch checking people already hold is a different miss. Chase Total Checking does not earn interest, and the monthly service fee is $15 unless a deposit, a daily balance, a combined balance, or a linked checking account waives it that statement period. Bank of America Advantage Plus does not pay interest. Its $12 monthly maintenance fee drops for a month with one qualifying direct deposit of at least $250, a daily balance of $1,500, or a qualifying rewards tier, and opening takes $100. Citi Regular Checking is also non-interest bearing. The monthly service fee matches Chase and drops with enhanced direct deposits of at least $250, while a non-Citi ATM withdrawal stays $2.50 even in a waived month. Wells Fargo's Everyday Checking pages say the account is not interest-bearing, and they disagree on the fee: the product pages list a service fee, while the consumer fee document lists $10 for that account name, so budget the amount on the statement.

A missed debit test costs more than a year of ordinary checking interest

On a $10,000 balance held for a year, Quontic's qualifying APY earns $110 before tax, and the missed-test rate on that sheet earns $1. The FDIC interest-checking print of 0.07% earns $7 on the same balance. The debit test is the product. Four months of Chase's monthly service fee, charged when the waiver fails, cost more than a year of that national rate on the same balance.

Updated September 23, 2026, the checking statistics page shows a 0.45% average verified APY, and 71% of the accounts charge no monthly maintenance fee. Quontic is the high print on that page. SoFi's checking yield does not depend on debit purchases or on a paycheck. Ally's higher tier, correct as of September 22, 2026, earns $37.50 in a year before tax on a balance sitting on that tier's line, and a smaller everyday balance earns the lower tier. When a rate moves after this page is published, the change lands on the rate tracker.

How we ranked: on September 23, 2026 I read the rate and fee pages published by the nine issuers below, and I also read Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citi. No issuer paid for its place. Where Capital One's checking page names a yield and leaves the figure blank, the blank stays blank. A savings yield printed beside checking is not treated as the checking rate. Louis Corneloup reviewed the page editorially. The scoring method is on how we rate.

Key Features to Look For

The APY that sits on the spending balanceEssential

Quontic, SoFi, and Ally print a checking APY, so the spending balance itself can earn. Capital One and Schwab say checking earns interest and do not print a number you can quote. OnePay checking pays nothing, Varo's agreement pays no interest on checking, Upgrade's rewards checking earns no APY, and Chase does not earn interest. A yield off that line will not pay the rent.

The test that keeps the high rateEssential

Quontic requires 10 qualifying point-of-sale debit purchases at or above the minimum in the comparison table every cycle, or the low rate hits the entire balance. That rules out a credit-card household. Ally's higher APY applies only on the upper tier in that table. SoFi's checking APY does not change with direct deposit, a deposit test, or SoFi Plus. Those tests move savings, not checking.

What a quiet month actually paysEssential

Quontic pays the low rate on the entire balance when the debit count is missed, so a vacation month reprices every dollar. ATM withdrawals, transfers, peer-to-peer payments, and the cash-back portion of a purchase do not count. Upgrade pays no cash back if the direct deposit in the comparison table is missed past 60 days from opening. Varo's elevated savings rate needs its own deposit test and a positive month-end balance, and it is not this checking balance.

A monthly fee that can erase the yieldEssential

Quontic, SoFi, Ally, Capital One, Schwab, OnePay, Varo, and Upgrade do not publish a monthly maintenance fee, so the yield is not fighting a monthly charge. Chase publishes a service fee unless the waiver hits. Bank of America publishes a monthly fee on a non-interest account, and Citi matches Chase's figure. A waived fee returns the month the test fails, and on a modest balance it can erase a year of ordinary checking interest.

Who holds the depositEssential

Quontic, Ally, SoFi Bank, Capital One, Schwab Bank, Varo Bank, and Chase are the banks on their own checking pages, so insurance sits at that bank. OnePay names Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank. Upgrade names Cross River Bank or participating institutions, and it describes insurance as FDIC or NCUA. Another app at that partner shares one cap. A Schwab One brokerage linked to checking is not a bank deposit and can lose value.

The wire and the ATM that outlive the headline

Capital One and SoFi charge the outgoing domestic wire in the comparison table, which is the cost of moving a large balance in one day. Ally and Upgrade charge the wire prices there too. Schwab lists a branch domestic wire, or the lower online price in that table, and three online wires a quarter are free once household balances are $100,000 or more. Ally rebates out-of-network ATM fees up to its cap. OnePay and Varo charge the off-network ATM fees in the table.

A savings APY standing next to a checking account

SoFi's rate sheet pays a higher savings APY with eligible direct deposit or a qualifying-deposit test, and a lower savings APY without that activity or SoFi Plus. Checking does not move with those tests. OnePay's savings pockets pay the rate in the comparison table. Upgrade's Performance Savings disclosure pays more with the direct deposit, effective September 18, 2026, and less otherwise, on a figure dated June 1, 2023. None of those savings figures is the checking APY.

Match the account to the month you will actually have

If you will post ten qualifying debit purchases every statement cycle, Quontic is the highest published checking APY in this set. A quiet cycle uses the low line in the comparison table, not the headline, so it suits a debit-card household.

If the checking balance should earn interest with no debit count and no paycheck test, SoFi's checking row does that. The savings row next to it does not, on the rate sheet dated May 28, 2026, so the screen can overstate what checking earns.

If the spending balance will stay at Ally's higher tier, that printed yield is correct as of September 22, 2026, and a thinner balance earns the lower tier for the whole account. There is no branch, and the ATM rebate stops at the cap in the comparison table.

If you want a branch or a cafe and you can accept a blank public APY, Capital One 360 Checking is still interest-bearing, with no monthly fee and no minimum to obtain the disclosed yield. The outgoing domestic wire is the priced exit. Read the yield inside the account.

If you already have a Schwab brokerage, or you will open one with no minimum, Schwab checking pays a variable rate by balance tier and rebates ATM cash-withdrawal fees worldwide. Call for the APY. A blank on this page means the issuer did not print one.

If the yield you saw is on a savings pocket, OnePay, Varo, and Upgrade are paying it on a different balance. Chase is the branch version of that answer: the account does not earn interest, and the monthly fee returns when the waiver fails.

If the cash does not need to pay bills, use the no-fee savings guide. A cash management account is covered in the cash management guide.

Evaluation Checklist

Read the checking line on the rate sheet, then the savings line. If they differ, the higher number is not the rate on the balance that pays rent.

If a higher APY needs debit purchases, write down what counts. Quontic excludes ATM withdrawals, transfers, and peer-to-peer payments, and each purchase has a dollar floor.

If the public page describes an APY and does not print a number, which is Capital One's checking page as of September 23, 2026, leave the blank empty. A third-party list is not the rate you will be paid.

Price one outgoing wire and one out-of-network ATM from the fee schedule before you treat a no-monthly-fee headline as free. Those charges remain after the monthly fee is gone.

Name the bank that holds the deposit before you fund a fintech. The cap is the partner bank's cap, and two apps at one bank share it.

Before a paycheck moves, confirm the posted APY is the checking row and not the savings row. The screenshot people share is often the savings number.

Upgrade's Performance Savings APY of 3.30% with direct deposit is effective September 18, 2026, and the unboosted 1.5% figure is dated June 1, 2023. The same Upgrade page also states up to 3.05% APY.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • ×

Quoting Quontic's qualifying APY as the rate on a quiet month. The product pays that yield only after the debit test in the comparison table. The rest of the time the printed yield is the low rate on the same sheet.

  • ×

Moving bill money into SoFi because a savings number on the same screen is higher. Checking stays on the checking row of the May 28, 2026 rate sheet. The higher savings APY needs eligible direct deposit or the qualifying-deposit test on that sheet, and SoFi Plus can raise the savings tier further without changing the checking row.

  • ×

Treating the savings yields at OnePay, Varo, and Upgrade as checking rates. Each issuer puts that yield on a savings balance. OnePay's checking section pays nothing, Varo's checking account is non-interest, and Upgrade's rewards checking earns no APY.

  • ×

Opening Chase Total Checking, or staying in Bank of America's Advantage Plus or Citi Regular Checking, because a waiver made one month free. None of those three earns interest. A non-Citi ATM withdrawal stays $2.50 even when Citi's monthly fee is waived.

  • ×

Treating the Schwab One brokerage and the checking balance as a single insured pile. The checking account is a Charles Schwab Bank deposit. The Schwab One brokerage is not FDIC-insured. An ATM rebate that Schwab can end is also not a promise that the surcharge will be rebated next year.

Expert Tips

  • →

Keep the bill-paying balance in the account whose checking APY you will actually earn, and keep surplus cash in a savings account from the high-yield savings guide. Quontic's own money market, at 3.90% APY on the September 23, 2026 rate sheet, pays more than its checking account.

  • →

If you will not hit ten debit purchases, SoFi's checking row is the higher printed yield that does not have an activity test. Ally's higher tier is worth using only when the balance will sit at or above the line in the comparison table. The free checking guide is the page for a fee test rather than a yield test.

  • →

Read which bank is named on a fintech agreement the day you fund it. OnePay names Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank. Upgrade names Cross River Bank. Two apps at one bank share a cap. The head-to-head for those apps is the SoFi, OnePay, Current, and Upgrade comparison.

  • →

When the cash does not need a debit card this month, a certificate is a different bargain, with a penalty if you take principal early. That job is the CD guide, not this one.

  • →

If Wells Fargo's Everyday Checking is the account you already have, treat it as non-interest bearing and confirm whether the statement shows the product-page fee or the lower figure in the fee document. Prime Checking and Premier Checking are the Wells Fargo accounts that earn interest, and they are not this product.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • !

A checking APY that needs ten debit purchases means Quontic's higher rate becomes the low rate on that sheet in any cycle you pay bills from another card.

  • !

A savings APY printed beside checking means SoFi, OnePay, Varo, and Upgrade may be quoting a different balance. The checking line is the one that pays your bills.

  • !

A monthly fee with several ways to avoid it means Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, or Citi can still charge the month the test fails. The avoided fee is not a deleted fee, and none of those four everyday accounts is the high-yield product.

  • !

A numeric APY you cannot find on the issuer's own page means Capital One's public tiers are blank and Schwab says to call. Do not fill either blank from a roundup.

  • !

When two issuer documents disagree, as with Wells Fargo's product page and its fee document, or Upgrade's dated savings disclosure and the other savings line on that page, confirm the figure in the account before you quote it.

The Bottom Line

Quontic High Interest Checking is the highest published checking APY in this set, and only in a statement cycle with ten qualifying debit purchases. SoFi is the better fit when the checking balance should earn with no debit test and no paycheck test. Ally fits a balance that will stay in the higher tier. Capital One and Schwab pay interest and do not print a number you can lift off the public page. OnePay, Varo, and Upgrade put the yield people screenshot on a savings balance or a debit reward, and Chase Total Checking does not earn interest.

Treat the ranking as general information, not personalized financial advice. Yields and fees change after publication, so recheck the issuer's live page before you move a paycheck, rather than a saved copy of this ranking.

Quontic High Interest Checking, if the goal is the highest APY on the checking balance itself. As of September 23, 2026, Quontic's rate sheet pays 1.10% APY after at least 10 point-of-sale debit purchases of $10 or more in the statement cycle, and the missed-test rate in the comparison table applies when that count is missed. SoFi Checking pays a checking yield with no debit test, on a rate sheet effective May 28, 2026. Ally Interest Checking pays the two tiers in the comparison table, correct as of September 22, 2026. The checking list includes accounts that pay less or nothing.

How much does a high-interest checking account pay?

On a $10,000 balance held for a year, Quontic's qualifying APY earns $110 before tax and the missed-test rate earns $1. SoFi's checking APY earns $50 on that balance. The FDIC national interest-checking rate of 0.07%, as of September 21, 2026, earns $7. Ally's higher tier earns $37.50 in a year on a balance sitting on that line. None of these yields is after tax, and a savings account in the high-yield savings guide pays more on cash that does not need to stay in checking. The wires in the comparison table are the other cost.

Is there a free high-interest checking account with no monthly fee?

Quontic, SoFi, and Ally publish a checking APY and do not publish a monthly maintenance fee. Quontic still requires an opening deposit and ten qualifying debit purchases to keep the higher rate. SoFi's checking APY does not require a minimum balance. Ally requires no minimum to open, and the higher APY still requires the balance tier in the comparison table. Chase can cost nothing in a month you meet a waiver, and the account does not earn interest. The free checking guide ranks the fee, not the yield.

What APY do you earn if you miss Quontic's debit requirement?

The rate sheet, accurate as of September 23, 2026, pays 0.01% APY, and the interest rate matches it, on the entire balance when the count is missed. The qualifying rate does not apply to part of the balance. ATM withdrawals, transfers between accounts, peer-to-peer payments, and the cash-over portion of a purchase do not count toward the ten transactions, and each one that does count has to clear the minimum in the comparison table. The account still has no monthly maintenance fee in a missed cycle, so the cost of the miss is the lost yield.

Does SoFi checking pay the same APY as SoFi savings?

No. On the rate sheet effective May 28, 2026, checking pays 0.50% APY at all balances whether or not you have direct deposit. Savings pays 3.10% APY with eligible direct deposit or $5,000 in qualifying deposits every 31 days, and 0.80% APY without that activity or a SoFi Plus membership. SoFi Plus can pay 4.50% APY on up to $20,000 of savings. That savings tier does not change the checking row. The head-to-head with other app accounts is the SoFi and OnePay comparison.

Does Chase Total Checking earn interest?

No. Chase's product guide says Total Checking does not earn interest. The monthly service fee in the comparison table returns unless, in that statement period, you have $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, a $1,500 beginning daily balance, a combined balance with linked accounts, or a link to a qualifying Chase checking account. A paid overdraft item can also cost $34, up to three times in a business day. Bank of America Advantage Plus and Citi Regular Checking are also non-interest bearing. Wells Fargo says Everyday Checking is not an interest-bearing account, and Prime Checking is the interest product.

Is a savings pocket the same as a high-interest checking account?

No. OnePay's schedule, effective August 20, 2026, pays 0.00% APY on checking and 3.35% APY on savings pockets. Varo's checking agreement pays no interest, and the savings APY of 1.00% or 3.75% on a capped slice of that account is separate, accurate as of July 1, 2026. Upgrade says Rewards Checking Preferred does not earn APY, and the savings rate with the direct deposit is the dated figure in the comparison footnote. The checking statistics average of 0.45%, as of September 23, 2026, blends these products. It is not a rate you can open.
