Savings Rates Since August 2026, From Our Rate Log

A dated read of FinanceRadar's savings rate log, the issuer pages we re-checked today, and what $10,000 earns at the median against the FDIC average.

Of the 17 accounts with a clean rate reading and at least two checks, 8 raised and none cut. The other 9 held their rate. Among a fixed group of 8 accounts logged since August 31, the median APY rose from 3.80% to 4.00% by October 26, 2026.

FinanceRadar data: of the 17 accounts with a clean rate reading and at least two checks, 8 raised and none cut, between August 9 and October 26, 2026. The log holds 289 dated APY checks on 27 savings accounts, and the 18 clean accounts carry 197 of them. Their median APY was 3.75% on October 26, 2026. Each figure was read from the provider's own rate page at an automated check.

A logged APY is what a bank printed at one check. It is not a promise about the rate on your balance, and several of the pages below attach conditions to the number. Read the condition column before you budget from any single figure.

Changes are first logged APY to latest logged APY, in percentage points. Only the first and last check of each account count here, so an account can move in between. The conditions come from each issuer's page as read on October 27, 2026, and a condition is only as current as the page's own date.

How did the median move?

The cohort is the 8 accounts logged from August 31 or earlier, so the group stays the same on every date. Each date uses each account's latest check on or before that date. The cohort's median and mean are below.

DateMedian APYMean APYAccounts
August 31, 20263.80%3.71%8
September 15, 20263.80%3.71%8
September 30, 20263.88%3.80%8
October 15, 20263.88%3.86%8
October 26, 20264.00%3.91%8

On October 26 the cohort median uses the log's 4.10% for Zynlo. With the 4.05% that Zynlo's page shows, the median is 3.975%, which is about 4.00%.

The wider clean set does not show the same path. It had 11 accounts on September 15, with a median of 3.85%, and 18 accounts on October 26, with a median of 3.75%. The 18-account median includes one business account, Grasshopper Bank Innovator Savings. Without it, the median of the other 17 is also 3.75%.

Who raised their APY, and by how much?

Eight accounts raised their APY and none cut it. The raises, with the date the log first saw the new rate:

  • EverBank, plus 0.30, first logged on October 4. Its page says the 4.20% applies to new accounts and "may not apply to existing accounts."
  • Pibank, plus 0.30, first logged on October 4 at 4.25%, then on October 22 at 4.40%. Its page says the rate can change without notice after the account is opened.
  • Robinhood Gold Cash Sweep, plus 0.25, first logged on September 21. The 3.6% base applies to Gold members, and Gold costs $5 a month.
  • Zynlo Money Market, plus 0.25, first logged on October 22. The page shows 4.05% as of October 10, so the log's 4.10% is one reading that the page does not confirm today.
  • Happen Bank LevelUp Savings, plus 0.20, first logged on September 23. The 4.20% applies only with $250+ in monthly deposits; without them the standard rate is 3.00%.
  • Bask Interest Savings, plus 0.15, first logged on September 25.
  • Ally Online Savings, plus 0.10, first logged on September 27.
  • Apple Savings, plus 0.10, first logged on September 25.

The nine other accounts stayed on the same logged figure from first to last check. A logged date is when our check first saw the rate, not the day the bank changed it.

How wide is the gap between the top rate and the median?

The highest logged rate in the clean set is 4.50%, held by GO2bank Savings Vaults. Against the 3.75% median on October 26, that is a gap of 0.75 points, or $75 a year on $10,000. The top rate is weaker than it looks. GO2bank's 4.50% is capped by balance, as its page states. The page also dates that rate to December 2024, so we could not confirm the 4.50% against the issuer today.

Pibank is the highest rate in the fixed cohort at 4.40%. Its page, read today, shows the rate as valid as of October 21, 2026, with no minimum balance and no balance tiers.

What $10,000 earns at the median, against the FDIC average?

The $375 figure assumes the headline rate applies to the whole balance. Many of the rates above do not. A Varo saver with $10,000 who meets the $800 monthly deposit condition earns about $237.50 a year: 3.75% on the first $5,000 and 1.00% on the rest. Current Savings Pods caps its 4.00% at $6,000 across pods, and GO2bank caps its rate by balance.

Where the headline rate does apply to the whole balance, as at the 3.75% median, $10,000 earns about $375 a year if the rate holds and you add or withdraw nothing. The FDIC's national savings rate is 0.38%, which on the same balance is $38, a gap of $337. The FDIC figure is the National Deposit Rates column, dated October 19, 2026, and read on the FDIC page on October 27, 2026. Using the fixed cohort's median of 4.00% instead gives $400 against $38.

These are simple one-year figures before tax and fees, with the rate held still.

What this sample is and is not

The sample is the accounts FinanceRadar verifies, mostly online banks and fintech cash accounts. It is not the whole US market. Our category page, read today, shows an average of 3.21% across the 50 accounts with a published APY, out of 52 tracked. That is a larger list than this one, so its average does not match our 3.75% median, and neither number is the national rate.

The log records checks, not every day. A cut that happened between two checks, or a promotion that ended before our first check, does not appear as a row. "None cut" means our checks did not record a cut.

Where the issuer pages disagree with the log

We re-read 17 issuer pages on October 27, 2026. Most print the rate the log shows, with the conditions in the table. Three need a note:

  • Zynlo prints 4.05%, as of October 10, 2026, while the log's October 22 check read 4.10%.
  • Ally prints 3.2%, correct as of October 26, 2026, while the log's October 21 check read 3.10%.
  • Vanguard Cash Plus printed no APY when re-read: the page shows "starts at - as of -". The 3.50% in the table is the log's last reading, from October 13, and the page shows no rate today.

GO2bank's page still prints 4.50% but dates it December 2024. Current Savings Pods' page is dated August 1, 2023. We treat both as unconfirmed until the issuer restamps them. We have not changed the log figures. The logged path is what the page showed at the check, and the page today is what a reader can confirm now.

Methodology

  • Source: FinanceRadar's rate log (the RateSnapshot table), field APY, for savings accounts. Each check records the APY the provider printed on its rate page.
  • Window and volume: 289 checks on 27 accounts, from August 9 to October 26, 2026. Of the 27, 23 were checked at least twice and 4 were checked once.
  • Clean and excluded: of the 23 checked at least twice, 17 are clean and 6 are excluded. The clean set is 18 accounts with 197 checks, and Grasshopper Bank Innovator Savings, a business account, is the one clean account with a single check (3.25% on October 25, 2026), so no change can be measured for it.
  • Excluded, nine in all: 6 with two or more checks and 3 with one check. None is in any figure on this page. The excluded logs do show falls. Betterment's log alternated between 4.40% and 3.25 to 3.50% from August to October, with a last reading of 4.40% on October 22, and Wealthfront from 4.45% to 3.55% on October 22. They are out because their readings mix promotional and standard rates, so one number per check would mislead.
    • Betterment Cash Reserve: the page shows a new-client boost next to the standard rate, and the log recorded both.
    • Wealthfront Cash Account: the page shows a new-client boost, and the log recorded base plus boost.
    • E*TRADE Premium Savings: the log recorded the 4.25% new-account promo, not the 3.75% standard rate.
    • Openbank High Yield Savings: the log recorded the 6-month new-customer boost.
    • Axos ONE: the log recorded the October new-customer bundle rate.
    • Marcus Online Savings: one check only, and the page carries a referral boost.
    • Axos Bank Business Savings: the log read the business savings listing page, not this account.
    • Axos Bank Business Premium Savings: the log recorded the BOOST41 promotion.
    • Barclays Tiered Savings: the log read only the $250,000+ tier and stopped on October 2.
  • Per-date rule: each date in the median table uses each account's latest check on or before that date.
  • Issuer pages, read October 27, 2026: Pibank Savings, EverBank Performance Savings, Happen Bank LevelUp Savings, Zynlo Money Market, GO2bank savings, Ally Online Savings, Robinhood's cash rate help article, Robinhood Gold, Varo Savings, Current Savings Pods, Cash App Savings, Ivy Bank, CIT Bank Platinum Savings, BrioDirect, Upgrade Premier Savings, Grasshopper Innovator Savings and Vanguard Cash Plus.
  • Market figure: the FDIC national rate table, read October 27, 2026, and our high-yield savings category page, read the same day.
  • Refresh: we re-check rates on a rolling schedule, not daily, and this page will be updated only when the log or an issuer page changes.

FAQ

Are savings rates going up in October 2026?

Some are. Of the 17 accounts with a clean rate reading and at least two checks, 8 raised and none cut between August and October 2026. The fixed cohort's median rose from 3.80% to about 4.00% by October 26, 2026. The wider clean set's median was 3.75% on the same date.

Is the FDIC national savings rate the APY I will earn?

No. The FDIC national savings rate was 0.38% as of October 19, 2026, and it is a market-wide average. Our 3.75% median is for accounts FinanceRadar verifies, mostly online banks. On $10,000 at the median, the figures are about $375 and $38 a year before tax, and that $375 assumes the headline rate applies to the whole balance.

Why were nine accounts left out?

Their logs mix a promotional rate with the standard rate, or a check read the wrong figure, so one APY per check would mislead. Six of them had two or more checks. Leaving them out keeps the median and the raise count on one basis. None of the nine is in the figures above, although the excluded logs do show falls.

Which savings account raised its APY the most since August 2026?

Two accounts tie in our clean log, each up 0.30 points: EverBank Performance Savings, first logged at its higher rate on October 4 (EverBank's page says the rate is for new accounts), and Pibank Savings, which rose in two steps first logged on October 4 and October 22. Pibank's page dates its current rate October 21, 2026. Robinhood Gold and Zynlo follow at 0.25 points each.

Can an account cut its APY after this page?

Yes. Every provider on this page says its rate is variable and can change, several say without notice and some after the account is open. This page reflects logged checks to October 26, 2026, and the issuer page, with its conditions, is the rate to check before you open an account.
