Savings Rate Index

What savings accounts pay, week by week. It is the median APY of the accounts we track, read on each bank's own page, with promotional and wrong readings left out. Use it to see whether rates are moving and whether an account pays more than the middle of the pack.

Median APY by week, Sep 9, 2026 to Oct 28, 2026. The fixed basket is the 8 accounts already logged on Sep 9, 2026: its line moves only when an account changes its rate. The dashed line includes every account kept, so it also moves when an account is added (8 accounts on Sep 9, 2026, 16 on Oct 28, 2026).

What we leave out, and the rule

The rate log is an automated reading of each bank's page. It records what the reader saw, and a bank page can show a promotional rate, a new-customer boost, one balance tier of a tiered account, or another product's rate. An index built on that without a rule would move on advertising, not on rates. Two rules decide what stays out:

  1. Editor review. We compared the readings with the bank's page and left out an account when the log recorded a promotional or boosted rate, the rate of one balance tier, or another page. Each one is listed below with the reason and the date of the review.
  2. Automatic hold. Any other account whose latest reading is more than 0.30 points away from the APY we verified by hand on its page is held back until someone looks, so a promotion that appears after a review cannot move the index. 2 held back today.

How it is built, and what it is not

  • Sample. The published savings accounts on Financeradar that have a logged APY (27 accounts, 11 left out, 16 kept). It is the accounts we verify, not the US market: banks that are not in the catalog are not in the index.
  • Source. RateSnapshot, our log of automated readings of each bank's page (a model extracts the APY). The logged APY is not a verified figure; the verified one is on each product page with the day we read it.
  • Weeks. One point every 7 days ending Oct 28, 2026. For each account, its last reading on or before that day.
  • Fixed basket versus all. The basket is the 8 accounts (Ally Online Savings, Bask Interest Savings, BrioDirect High-Yield Savings, CIT Bank Platinum Savings, EverBank Performance Savings, Pibank Savings, Robinhood Gold Cash Sweep, Zynlo Money Market) already logged on Sep 9, 2026, at least 8 of them, so its line moves only when a rate moves. The dashed line adds each account once it is logged, so it also moves when the set changes.
  • Median, not average. The median ignores one outlier; the mean is in the table above. Rates are variable and change without notice.
  • National benchmark. The FDIC national savings average (0.38%, October 19, 2026; 12-month CD 1.76%) is printed for context and never used in the index.
